| Welsh unaffiliated show jumping Championships |
SUNNYBANK held the Winter unaffiliated Welsh Championship final on 11th April 2010.
The day was really well supported with almost everyone who had registered turning up on the day to compete.
On offer to the winners were beautiful Welsh Sashes and Welsh Rosettes with Dragon trim to all Champions.
Each of our winners received a Sash, Champion rosette cup and jacket hoody or fleece. 2nd and 3rd plces received medals and free entry vouchers to competitions. The day went really and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
The full results can be seen on the results page. Photos and write up will appear in welsh Rider in the June issue.
The Summer Qualifiers start on the 14th April . A suggestion was made at the Champs by one of our regular competitors concerning the points Championship. The suggestion was that instead of an overall Champion receiving a sash cup rosete and prizes, could we for the summer champs have each section winner to receive a sash and welsh rosette (instead of just a rosette) and do away with the overall points champion.
This is something that we have taken on board. You can see how popular our posh sashes were.
For the Summer Champs final which will be on the 3rd Oct. This is what we will do.

Show Report 18th Sept 10
Sunnybank EC Caerphilly S.Wales Showing Extravaganza
On the 18th Sept Sunny bank ran what we called a Showing Extravaganza . Wales’s own Mini Horse of the Year show. We wanted to try and create the atmosphere of the Horse of the year show and give those who had qualified for Hoys the opportunity for a run out before the big day, and give those who had never experienced evening performances or qualified Hoys the chance at a Championship show.
All competitors took part in the day time classes which Culminated in Evening Performances.
The weather was beautiful on the day and all qualifying classes were held outdoors in the beautiful sunshine with ground conditions giving perfect going.
All of our judges were panel judges who regularly judge Horse of The Year Show Qualifiers.
They selected the top 10 from the day time classes and they were all invited to go forward to evening performance.
None of the results were given during the day time, making the evening performance even more special.
We were a little apprehensive at the beginning, being the first Centre in Wales to try anything like this, but we need not have been as the support from competitors, sponsors, producers spectators judges stewards and family was fantastic.
The Atmosphere in the Indoor arena during the evening performances was electric. What with the Bar, music a packed audience and some fantastic horses and ponies forward we could not have asked for anymore.
The presentations for the top ten were made during the evening with all winners receiving sashes. Then onto the Championships for each section. 1st & 2nd prize winners from each section went through to their respective Championships and the Champions and Reserves selected from them.
All our Champions received lovely big Challenge cups sashes and lovely rosettes.
The finale to the event was the supreme Championship. There were 18 horses/ponies forward. An Amazing amount since most people had been on the show ground since 8am and the supreme took place at 10.30pm.
What a line up. The quality forward was unbelievable, it really was like being at HOYS.
The Supreme Champion went to Moorgate High Hopes Ridden by Jess Nevin, Produced by Mr & Mrs Jon Hughes-Jones and Owned & Bred by Mr & Mrs M Wrighton of Lancashire .This pony has been a Prolific winner during the 2010 season amongst the many wins was Champion Show Pony at the Royal International Horse Show 2010.
Sunnybank wish the pony & the team the very best of luck at the Horse of the Year Show.
We are planning on making this an annual event and hope that next years will be even bigger and better.
Next years date Saturday the 17th September has already been put in the diary.
